Memorial to Rex Herron
Rex Herron, of Florence, AZ, passed away April 5, 2010. Rex was born in Stayton, Oregon on June 25, 1938. He graduated from Gates High School in Gates, Oregon. He owned and operated service stations in the Santiam Canyon area of Oregon for several years. He then attended the University of Oregon earning a Bachelor of Science degree and the State University of New York at Albany, receiving a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. Rex came to Arizona in 1974. He worked for various non-profit organizations in Phoenix and for twenty years as an administrator for the Arizona Department of Correction from which he retired in 1999. Rex and his family lived in Mesa and later moved to Florence, Arizona. He was very active in the community and especially enjoyed the out of doors. He was a founding member of the Arizona Crested Saguaro Society. Rex was a kind, generous and caring person who touched everyone he met. He had a gift for making others feel special, for putting them at ease and making them laugh. His many friends will feel his loss deeply. Rex is survived by his wife Cindy; his daughter Anya Herron; his sister Dinah Haywood and two nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Adam.
